Viztek announces upgrades to Exa PACS platform

November 30, 2014 – Chicago, IL (RSNA Booth: #7322) - Viztek, the leading provider of complete digital software and hardware diagnostic imaging solutions, today announced upgraded features that have been added to its Exa PACS*. The new PACS platform was designed by Viztek to be fully web-based on any device with any operating system, and increase the speed and tool set from which radiologists and referring physicians are now able to access radiology exams. Exa PACS will be demonstrated this week during the Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA’s) 100th annual Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting in Chicago.

“When Viztek entered the PACS market in 2006, our goal was to have the first fully diagnostic web-based PACS versus just the light viewers that many offered, and we delivered on that,” explained Steve Deaton, Vice President, Viztek. “With innovation and speed-of-development guiding Viztek’s software vision, our goal is to lead the market with full-featured, diagnostic viewing for all modality types with nothing required to be downloaded on the local workstation.”

With continued pressures from government regulations and changes in reimbursement, it is a necessity for radiology departments - as well as the greater healthcare system of which they are a part - to operate efficiently while maintaining a high standard of care. Viztek’s mission to simplify radiology supports this need, and is evident in the key features and benefits of the Exa PACS including the following:

  1. Zero Footprint Viewing – Regardless of location - whether at an offsite facility, in the home office, or on the go – radiologists and referring physicians will benefit from the pending zero footprint, diagnostic- quality viewing for any modality. There are no plug-ins required, no limitations, and full functionality is available regardless of operating system or age of the computer. Additionally, a fully integrated dictation module is seamlessly enabled.
  1. Server-side Rendering – Image download time is enhanced, particularly for mammography, PET CT, 3D and other large image files, especially in multi-site or distributed environments. Server-side rendering also helps to extend the life of older workstations with less processing capability.
  1. Automatic Anatomical Linking of All Priors – Radiologists can save precious time and be assured of accuracy with the ability to automatically cross-link and synchronize CT priors. Guesswork and human error is eliminated. For any CT study, such as when viewing critical pathology like the size of cancerous nodules, the software automatically anatomically indexes all priors – regardless if there is one or are five or more. Fast, accurate viewing can be relied upon.

The Viztek Exa PACS works in tandem with the Exa EHR, which has bundled all essential components of the radiology workflow process including PACS, practice management, billing, order entry, radiology reports, patient portals and other software product currently delivered by the company. Completely web-based and available on any browser, the Exa PACS and Exa EHR are flexible, secure solutions that provide an efficient workflow and smoother referral process for all parties.

“Because the Viztek software is proprietary and developed in-house, we are able to react quickly to market needs, as well as to leverage IT advancements from other industries and leapfrog to a new generation of PACS that others can’t yet provide,” said Deaton. “Our mission is to simplify radiology and we are doing that and more, taking it a step further to help simplify healthcare with streamlined systems that work smarter and faster.”
