Growth to return to interventional x-ray equipment market

The outlook for the U.S. interventional x-ray equipment market seems to be reverting back to positive levels as of the end of 2012, following three years of contraction in the interventional radiology (IR) and interventional cardiology (IC) segments, according to a report from market research firm Frost & Sullivan.

This reversal is being driven by growth opportunities in sub-segments of the IR and IC markets, according to the executive summary of the report titled “Analysis of the U.S. Interventional Radiology and Cardiology X-ray Equipment Market.”

Within IR, interventional oncology and interventional neurology offer growth potential, while electrophysiology and other emerging minimally invasive procedures look to do the same as sub-segments of the IC market, the report predicted.

Growth had been stalled in IR and IC because of macroeconomic pressures and a slowdown in replacement cycles in these mature markets.

The executive summary also noted that combination catheterization suites and hybrid operating rooms will drive demand for multipurpose interventional equipment as they emerge as clinical best practice.
