Healthcare reform, Daschle to headline rad leadership event
Former Senate Majority and Minority Leader Tom Daschle will provide the keynote address “Getting It Done: What’s Next for Healthcare Reform,” at the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI).
The RLI annual event is scheduled for July 25-28, at the Kellogg School of Management on Northwestern University’s Evanston, Ill., campus.
“The success of our specialty depends on preparing radiology’s current and future leaders to meet the challenges ahead. This year’s annual event will focus on essential topics such as negotiations, strategic alliances and intrapreneurship. As a political leader with significant health care legislation experience, Senator Daschle has proven himself as an expert in these key areas and we are honored to have him deliver the keynote address at this year’s event,” said Cynthia S. Sherry, MD, medical director of RLI and chair of the ACR's Commission on Leadership and Practice Development.
One of the architect of President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform plan, Senator Daschle is one of the longest serving Senate Democratic Leaders in history and the only one to serve twice as both Majority and Minority Leader. Today, he is a senior policy advisor to the law firm of DLA Piper where he provides clients with strategic advice on public policy issues such as climate change, energy, health care, trade, financial services and telecommunications. Daschle is currently a member of the Health Policy and Management Executive Council at the Harvard School of Public Health, in addition to the Global Policy Advisory Council for the Health Worker Migration Initiative. In 2007, Senator Daschle joined with former Majority Leaders George Mitchell, Bob Dole and Howard Baker to create the Bipartisan Policy Center—a Washington, D.C.-based think tank that actively promotes bipartisanship.
The RLI annual event combines radiology experts with business school faculty to provide training that can be put into practice. In addition to negotiations, strategic alliances and intrapreneurship, featured topics at this year’s event include operations management, leadership and managing teams.
Participants must be enrolled in the RLI in order to register for the annual event.
