ACR, ASTRO update radiation therapy practice parameters

The American College of Radiology (ACR) and American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) have released updated radiation therapy parameters for treating patients with cancer.

In total, the groups released seven updated practice parameters which describe recommended procedures and considerations to safely administer radiation depending on practice area.

The ACR and ASTRO worked together to develop three of the parameters:

An additional four practice parameters were updated, which target the medical use of specific radioactive resources. Those were created with help from the American College of Nuclear Medicine (ACNM), the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI), the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS), the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) and the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR):
