A former Ohio radiologist is appealing the state medical board’s decision to revoke his medical license after he botched numerous cosmetic procedures and out-of-scope surgeries.
Wade Banker, MD, a radiologist who practiced in Maumee, Ohio, is said to have rendered “inappropriate care” to 15 patients between 2014 and 2018, according to the State Medical Board of Ohio’s report. In April 2023, the medical board voted to revoke his license, citing improper documentation and review of patients’ medical records, inadequate monitoring of patients’ condition during procedures, inappropriate prescribing and more.
Since his license was revoked last spring, Banker has disputed the board’s decision. In November, he lost a motion to overturn the board's decision in Franklin County. On May 8 he again took his case to the Court of Appeals.
According to local Ohio news outlets who had reporters in the courtroom, Banker’s attorneys said that the court’s previous decision to revoke the radiologist’s medical license “lacked due process,” was “fundamentally unfair” and that Banker had been “over punished” for his actions.
The Ohio Medical Board refuted these claims, arguing that they have ample evidence to support their decision, including Banker’s own “abysmal” record-keeping and proof that all nine patients who underwent hormonal therapy under Banker’s guidance were treated “below the standard of care.”
Banker, a diagnostic radiologist with a subspecialty in interventional radiology, is said to have provided breast augmentations, tummy tucks, hormonal therapy and other out-of-scope procedures from Luxe Laser Center—a medical spa owned by the radiologist. Several of the procedures Banker conducted resulted in patient harm, with one sustaining third degree burns during laser treatment and another repeatedly losing consciousness and requiring multiple rounds of CPR during and after their procedure.
Some of the affected patients have gone on the record stating that they were never made aware that Banker was not a cosmetic surgeon.
The case is now under review by the Court of Appeals.
