Barnes-Jewish Hospital gets new gamma knife install

Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis has placed an order for a Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, a non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery device from Elekta of Stockholm, Sweden. The facility has been performing gamma knife radiosurgery since 1998, according to Elekta.

The Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion uses focused doses of radiation to treat malignant and benign brain tumors, as well as, other brain disorders, the company said.

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is a member of BJC HealthCare, which provides a full range of healthcare services through its 13 hospitals and more than 100 healthcare sites in Missouri and Illinois. The facility is also affiliated with Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Elekta said.
