Contracts: Optio, InnerWireless, GE, MEDITECH, Nuance, Varian
Optio Software will provide Plano, Texas-based Triad Hospitals enterprisewide electronic forms technology throughout its 52 acute-care facilities in 16 states. The Optio MedForms Suite, an automated forms library and documents-on-demand solution, is designed to streamline document-driven processes and bring down costs by replacing expensive preprinted registration forms. Triad will also implement Optio’s Advanced Labeling and DesignStudio systems.
InnerWireless deployed its Medical-Grade Wireless Utility throughout The Heart Center of Indiana (THCI). The utility is a broadband antenna system that supports multiple wireless applications and devices, including 802.11 a/b/g standards, cellular phones, two-way radios, and radio frequency location systems for asset tracking. Additionally, the Medical-grade Wireless Utility will support Siemens’ Soarian software, a health information system being considered for implementation at THCI.
Valley Baptist Health System in southern Texas will install GE Healthcare’s Centricity Enterprise (formerly IDX Carecast).
Medical Information Technology (MEDITECH) inked a contract with Hospital Sisters Health System of Springfield, Ill., to install the company’s Advanced Clinical Systems, along with registration and patient accounting applications. MEDITECH will be the main clinical information conduit, feeding and maintaining one integrated electronic medical record that will unite 13 acute-care hospitals across Illinois and Wisconsin.
Universal Health Services will implement Nuance Communications’ Dictaphone enterprise-level speech recognition software suite across 22 acute-care hospitals in North America to reduce mounting outsourced transcription costs, improve reporting turnaround times, and enhance the quality of its clinical documentation.
Doctors at Melbourne Internal Medical Associates (MIMA) Cancer Center in Brevard County, Fla., are providing lung cancer patients with image-guided body radiosurgery using technology from Varian Medical Systems. The system is enabling doctors to zero in on early-stage tumors or metastatic lesions in the lung. The new image-guided body radiosurgery treatment — using Varian’s Trilogy medical linear accelerator and RPM respiratory gating device — is made possible by combining real-time 3D x-ray imaging, robotic patient positioning, automated beam shaping, and respiratory gating technologies from Varian to track and target tumors with unprecedented precision and speed, the company says.
