Contracts: Viztek, Toshiba, MEDSEEK, NetApp
Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, S.C., has selected Viztek’s Onyx-Chiro chiropractic PACS to support full conversion to the digital imaging environment for its on-campus Chiropractic Health Center. It has been implemented in two phases to streamline the transition to a digital imaging environment and support the college’s budget. Completed in January 2007, phase one included conversion of one existing x-ray suite to a digital environment that includes two on-site digital archives. Phase two involved converting a large x-ray classroom with traditional x-ray view boxes to an entirely electronic lab with 40 computer workstations equipped with Viztek software.
Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. announced that Oregon Institute of Technology has purchased 20 Toshiba Xario ultrasound systems for its new $22-million Oregon Center for Health Professions. Toshiba’s Xario ultrasound system delivers high-quality images necessary to distinguish minute cardiac and vascular structures. OIT will be using the Xario systems for all of its programs, including Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Vascular Technology and Echocardiography.
MEDSEEK announced that it has been selected by the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich., to standardize the diverse websites of its three hospitals and multiple medical departments onto one enterprise web portal platform. The new interactive UMHS site will feature new evidence-based medical information from Healthwise to help consumers manage their healthcare needs. UMHS will deploy both SiteMaker E, MEDSEEK’s rapid-development enterprise content management system, to build and manage all system websites and the Healthwise Knowledgebase accredited online consumer health content resource. It will offer targeted health news, newsletters, health tips, support groups, physicians, classes, and related web pages in accordance with consumers’ preferences.
Network Appliance (NetApp) said that FirstHealth of the Carolinas, a private, nongovernmental, not-for-profit healthcare network serving 15 counties in the mid-Carolinas, has consolidated its data center applications and storage appliances onto NetApp unified storage solutions. FirstHealth replaced its antiquated direct-attached storage (DAS) infrastructure with one that has reduced management and production costs.
Primary storage from NetApp’s FAS3000 series systems provides round-the-clock global data availability for the full suite of FirstHealth information and application environments, including fileshares, home directories, and Oracle Database applications. FirstHealth leverages NetApp Data ONTAP 7G and the functionality of FlexVol to dynamically provision and allocate more than 150TB of data storage resources as needed to quickly respond to the massive data growth and changing application user environments. NetApp NearStore systems enable high-speed disk-to-disk backup and serve as a permanent archive for PACS images and electronic medical records. Data security is provided by NetApp SnapMirror and NetApp Snapshot technology to facilitate automated replication of all business- and patient-critical data among the FirstHealth hospitals. Additionally, NetApp SnapRestore software enables virtually instantaneous recovery of a single file or multi-terabyte volumes.
