Dublin hospital links speech and radiology with PowerScribe

St James’s Hospital in Dublin, Ireland, has deployed Nuance Communication’s PowerScribe dictaphone system to automate the creation of patient radiology reports using speech recognition.

The Nuance system has been integrated with St James’s Cerner-supplied RadNet radiology system.

PowerScribe unifies the RIS, PACS and electronic ordering processes, and includes advanced features that further reduce the time needed to complete a patient report.

These include pre-defined templates, a single log-on for PowerScribe and RIS/PACS, electronic sign-offs and data integration with EMR systems.
