Health First chooses Bluesocket for expansive wireless network

Bluesocket Inc., the leader in open wireless security and management solutions, announced this week that Health First, an integrated healthcare network in Brevard County, Fla., has implemented two BlueSecure 5000 Controllers to provide complimentary, secure wireless access to patients and their families in their three hospitals and hospice house locations.

Health First chose the BlueSecure 5000 Controllers based upon their robust security features and superior bandwidth management. Their goal was to provide internet access to patients and their families from an existing wireless infrastructure.

"We wanted to provide an experience similar to the hospitality industry where everything is convenient and users feel at home. However, we needed to ensure that network bandwidth would remain available for critical traffic and that the proper security was in place," said Marvin Reece, manager of Network & Telecom Services. "The BlueSecure Controllers give us a way to effectively isolate and monitor guest traffic while maintaining the integrity of our corporate and clinical applications." Health First employs a number of patient-related applications, including clinical documentation, vital sign tracking, nursing, and operating room scheduling in their wireless environment.
