How to make the most of Twitter at RSNA 2017—and all radiology meetings after

For some organizers as well as attendees of radiology meetings, live tweets and meeting-related Twitter polls sent from the site are distractions one can happily do without. However, with a little preparation and know-how, meeting tweeters and their followers can tap the social-media platform such that it greatly enhances the meeting experience for all involved.

That includes presenters who wish to extend their reach beyond the meeting, live-tweeters who may want a record for later referral and attendees themselves. The latter benefit by real-time session reminders and highlights and such, as do interested parties who couldn’t make the meeting in person.

So note the authors of an article posted online Nov. 20 in the Journal of the American College of Radiology.

Vivek Kalia, MD, MPH, of the University of Michigan and colleagues reviewed the “Tweet the meeting” literature and, with this present article—published days before the start of RSNA 2017—they offer a soup-to-nuts primer on leveraging Twitter to get the most out of radiology meetings.

“The short-form messaging and social media tool Twitter is conducive to high-paced interactive environments such as radiology meetings, simplifying the process of sharing information and connecting with others,” they write. “An effective and impactful Twitter presence can be formed by any individual, group, radiology society or other entity and has the potential of amplifying messages.”
