IBM assists with Kentucky EMR deployment

St. Elizabeth Healthcare is connecting hospitals, clinics and physicians offices in Northern Kentucky via an Epic Systems' EMR roll out using IBM technologies.

The system is expected to replace paper-based records for more than 50,000 patients within St. Elizabeth's, according to the Armonk, N.Y.-based IBM. The roll out is focused first on doctors' offices, which will begin in September, and then clinics and ambulatory care sites. The entire system including all six hospitals, approximately 1,000 physicians, 31 primary care physicians' offices and four imaging centers and clinics is expected to be connected by fall 2010.

IBM said the Epic Systems' EMR is hosted on IBM Power 570 and 550 servers running AIX, IBM's UNIX operating system. The EMR system includes EpicCare Ambulatory, Resolute Hospital Billing, EpicCare Inpatient, Prelude Registration and Cadence Scheduling.
