Kodak wins DOD DIN-PACS II contract, chalks up DirectView install

Eastman Kodak Co.'s Health Imaging Group has been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) for the DIN-PACS II contract.

The DOD, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, federal civilian agencies and the Department of Veterans Affairs can now order Kodak's DirectView PACS System 5, computed radiography (CR) and digital radiography (DR) systems.

The DIN-PACS (Digital Imaging Network Picture Archiving & Communications Systems) II contract is a one-year contract with four one-year renewable options in effect through September 2009.

In related contract news, Kodak will install its DirectView digital image capture and information management systems at The Memorial Hospital of Salem County, Salem, N.J.

The 140-bed hospital ordered Kodak's DirectView Web Distribution System, CR 500, CR 850, CR 950 and 8900 Laser Imaging System. The hospital also purchased Integration Services from Kodak's Professional Services group to integrate its new Web-based distribution system with its existing RIS.

According to Kodak, the CR 850 and CR 950 systems will be located in the main radiology department, and a CR 500 will be located 20 miles away in the hospital's outpatient imaging center. The Web-based image distribution system will transmit images from the outpatient center to the main department, replacing a time-consuming courier service for film-based studies.
