Mississippi Beacon Community teams up with Medicity
Delta Health Alliance (DHA), one of 17 sites nationwide selected by the federal government to serve as a Beacon Community for health IT, will collaborate with Medicity to enable providers serving the Mississippi Delta to collaborate more easily to improve disease management.
Delta Health Alliance coordinates and provides oversight for community-based programs that address healthcare and wellness gaps in the Delta region, focusing on increasing access to healthcare, improving health education and conducting health research. Nearly 13 percent of Mississippi Delta residents live with diabetes, twice the national average. The Beacon project's primary goal is to show how health IT can be used to support changes in clinical practice to reduce that percentage, stated Medicity, a health information exchange (HIE) technology provider based in Salt Lake City.
"Both providers and residents will benefit from a more cost-efficient health system that will enable us to redirect resources into patient care and out of administration and recordkeeping," said Anna Lyn Whitt, Beacon project director at DHA.
