Nebraska provider selects McKesson PACS

Good Samaritan Hospital of Kearney, Neb., a member of Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI), has completed a fast-track implementation of McKesson's Horizon Medical Imaging PACS.

McKesson said its PACS was selected to replace another vendor's PACS.

The new system will work with the hospital's current RIS to bring together images from multiple modalities with clinical patient data. The implementation was the first step in CHI's national initiative to convert from an existing PACS to the McKesson solution by 2011. The hospital also went live with McKesson's cardiovascular information system. Also, the company said the number of calls to the hospital's 24-hour PACS support line has decreased from a daily average of 25 to just three.

Good Samaritan, a 287-bed regional referral center located in rural central Nebraska, provides care to more than 350,000 residents of central Nebraska and southeastern Kansas. The hospital's physicians also reach out to 34 smaller remote hospitals, providing on-site care as needed.
