Operator of NY rad group charged in $30M Medicare fraud case

Tai, also known as Warren Tai, took over operation of United Medical Diagnosis in May 2010. The criminal complaint alleged that between May 2010 and May 2012, Tai and others he employed billed Medicare and Medicaid for more than $30 million in radiological services that were never performed by using the identity of another radiologist, and former owner of the practice, without the radiologist’s consent, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of New York.
“The defendant sought to enrich himself and fund his lifestyle first by stealing a doctor’s identity and then using that stolen identity to steal Medicare and Medicaid funds,” said Loretta E. Lynch, U.S. Attorney.
A warrant was unsealed which led to a search of Tai’s residence and the seizure of a Lamborghini automobile, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
If convicted, Tai faces a maximum of ten years in prison.
