Philips deploys 100th Achieva 3.0T MRI scanner

The University of Michigan's Department of Radiology has installed Philips Medical Systems' Achieva 3.0T compact whole-body magnetic resonance system for advanced clinical applications and research projects including neurological applications such as functional MRI studies, cardiovascular, body and pediatric applications.

Philips said is the 100th installation of the Achieva 3.0T MRI system to date.

It is the first of four Philips MRI scanners due to be installed by the University of Michigan's health system. The hospital will be deploying another Philips Achieva 3.0T MRI scanner this summer that will be dedicated to research applications aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment planning.

Two Philips Achieva 1.5T MRI scanners will be installed this month at the University of Michigan's C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and will be one of the first MRI scanners dedicated to pediatric patients throughout Michigan. The second is due for installation in early 2006 at the East Ann Arbor Surgery Center, a new outpatient facility servicing patients who do not require a hospital stay.
