RSNA names coalition member; ACR appoints new leader and more radiology executive news

The Radiological Society of North America has tapped Jinel Scott, MD, to represent the organization on a newly create health equity organization, RSNA announced May 13.

Scott brings her experience as director of emergency imaging, quality and patient safety services at Kings County Hospital Center in New York to the new Radiology Health Equity Coalition.

And Scott will utilize her role on RSNA’s Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to assist the coalition in its goal of addressing health disparities and altering health outcomes.

"At the National Convention of the Medical Committee of Human Rights in 1966, Martin Luther King Jr. said, 'Of all the forms of inequity, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane,'" Scott said Thursday. "Radiology has a role in addressing inequities in health care and I am proud to represent the RSNA as a part of the Radiology Health Equity Coalition."

American College of Radiology’s new leader

The ACR has tapped Haley Brown as its new government affairs specialist, the organization announced May 6.

Brown will focus on digital fundraising for the ACR’s political action committee RADPAC.

“Haley has a strong background as an accomplished political fundraiser and has built an impressive professional network on Capitol Hill,” Ted Burnes, senior director of political affairs and RADPAC said in a statement.

Medical center elects new radiologist executive

Livingston, New Jersey-based Saint Barnabas Medical Center recently elected interventional radiologist Alan Garten, MD, as president of its medical staff, according to news shared May 9.

Nearly 1,400 attending physicians at SBMC voted for the Chair of its radiology department to serve his two-year term. Garten joined the healthcare center in 1994, ultimately moving up to chairman of radiology in 2006. He was also crucial in implementing Saint Barnabas’ lung cancer screening program.

“Led by Dr. Alan Garten, our new medical staff officers are integral to carrying out Saint Barnabas Medical Center’s mission of compassionate care, healthcare excellence and superior service,” said President and CEO Stephen P. Zieniewicz.

  • The ACR Foundation handed out its Global Humanitarian Awards on Saturday, honoring radiologists who’ve had a positive impact on the field. The 2021 awards went to Faisal Khosa, MBBS, of Vancouver, BC, in the individual radiologist category, and Herman Oosterwijk, MS, MBA, of Cross Roads, TX, and Norman Young, of Toronto, ON, in the non-radiologist individual category.
  • AI and advanced viz specialist TeraRecon has appointed Sinan Batman as the Durham, North Carolina, organization’s new chief technology officer.
  • Fox Chase Cancer Center, a member of Temple University Health System in Philadelphia, recently appointed Jordan Anaokar, MD, as its new site director for radiology.
  • Houston-based imaging provider Green Imaging hired Lee Ann Moore as its chief operating officer.
