SNMMI elects new leadership; Rad Partners’ VP takes military role and more radiology executive news

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging has elected a handful of new leaders during its virtual annual meeting, running June 11-15.

Chief among the announcements is the society’s new President, Richard L. Wahl, MD, the Elizabeth E. Mallinckrodt Professor and head of radiology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Wahl is a longtime SNMMI member, currently serving as chair of the Research and Discovery domain for the organization’s Value Initiative. In his new role, the imaging specialist will focus on patient access to nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapeutics, while also enhancing diversity within the field.

“Nuclear medicine is undergoing a renaissance as a precision medicine specialty, with new radiopharmaceuticals, theranostics, and instrumentation to elucidate biology and benefit patients,” Wahl said in a statement

Additional SNMMI officers elected for 2021-2022 include:

President-elect Munir Ghesani, MD, chief of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging at Mount Sinai Health Enterprise in New York and Vice President-elect Helen Nadel, MD, director of pediatric nuclear medicine at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.

SNMMI Technologist Section officers include Dusty York, MAEd, CNMT, PET, ARRT(N)(CT), as president, and Krystle W. Glasgow, MIS, CNMT, NMTCB(CT), NMAA, as president-elect.

Below are additional appointments, in rapid fashion:

  • Dominick Pernice will lead Catholic Health’s St. Catherine of Siena Hospital as the New York organization’s COO. Previously, Pernice oversaw imaging services and supervised MRI, ultrasound and radiologic technologist operations for more than a decade.
  • Rad Partners’ Vice President of Culture and Leadership Development Tara McKennie has been promoted to brigadier general for the Alabama National Guard. She becomes the first female and Black woman to hold this position.
  • Lightpoint Medical, a miniaturized imaging tool manufacturer with offices in the U.K and Massachusetts, has appointed Graeme Smith as its new CEO.
  • Srirama Venkataraman, MD, has been named vice president of clinical research and strategy at MRI and AI specialist Promaxo.
  • Healthcare industry veteran David Madaffri was recently named vice president of global sales at Mach7 Technologies, a South Burlington, Vermont, imaging and data management company
