Twin Cities health system adds Ingenix coding system

HealthEast Care System, a health system serving Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minn., has implemented Ingenix Web.Strat, a medical encoding system from healthcare technology company Ingenix, to assist the efficiency and accuracy of its medical coding operations across all 20 of its hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers.

Web.Strat provides reference, encoding and reimbursement tools in a web-based interface, the Eden Prairie, Minn.-based Ingenix stated. As medical coders at HealthEast Care identify diagnoses or procedures, they use Web.Strat to assign the appropriate code from coding indexes, such as ICD-9.

Additionally, Web.Strat allows coders flexibility to use either a book-based encoding tool to find medical codes, or a phrase-based-logic tool that guides them to potential matches as they enter descriptions into a search field, the company stated.

For hospital managers, the system provides reporting tools that gauge individual coder productivity, assess DRG frequency and determine the hospital’s case-mix index, the company added.
