The virtual IR doc will see you now, colleague
Using natural language processing technology and IBM’s Watson, a team of interventional radiologists at UCLA has created a “virtual radiologist” chatbot to field questions from clinicians when an actual i-rad isn’t instantly available for a quick consultation.
“Some questions are complex, but some are routine and can be automated,” Kevin Seals, MD, the application’s programmer, tells Hospitals & Health Networks.
“It’s the most rapid way to get information, and it’s very carefully curated information supported by medical data,” he adds, “so the result is better patient care.”
