ACR CEO Thorwarth cites Anthem policy in letter following Senate price transparency request

American College of Radiology (ACR) CEO William T. Thorwarth Jr., MD, recently penned a letter to Sen. Bill Cassidy, MD, R-Louisiana, outlining how recent policies implemented by Anthem negatively impact patient access to advanced imaging provided in hospital outpatient departments.

The letter came in response to a request from a bipartisan group of U.S. Senators for advice on healthcare price and information transparency, according to a March 22 ACR press release.

“The ACR believes our concerns with Anthem’s policies may serve as the ‘poster child’ for what can happen when private payer policy development is non-transparent and non-consultative with its patients and providers,” wrote Thorwarth Jr. in the letter.
