Steve Ferrara loses race to become first radiologist elected to Congress
The interventional radiologist, and former chief medical officer for the U.S. Navy, Steve Ferrara, MD, lost to his Democratic challenger and former Phoenix Mayor, Greg Stanton in the race to represent Arizona’s 9th Congressional District, according to an ArizonaCentral report.
Ferrara became the first radiologist congressional candidate to win a contested primary race when he captured 59 percent of the vote to defeat David Giles and Irina Baroness Von Behr and win the Republican primary in August.
According to the Arizona Central report, Ferrara embraced healthcare as an issue, but “struggled to differentiate his views from those of the party more broadly.”
