Trump implements tariffs on Chinese imports—including AI, medical imaging equipment

On July 6, the U.S. and China began what many are calling a trade war by implementing billions of dollars in tariffs on each other's imported goods, including medical imaging equipment and artificial intelligence (AI).

"The conflict between the world's two biggest economies reflects chronic tension in their relationship as customers, business partners, and increasingly competitors. It also is rooted in the clash between American notions of free trade and Beijing’s state-led development model," according to an article published July 6 by The Associated Press.

The Trump administration is confronting China about what it calls "unfair trade policies."

The first in what could be a series of tariffs included 25 duties on $34 billion of Chinese imports, according to the AP. The White House has not released a statement regarding the tariffs or list of goods.
