The American College of Radiology (ACR) has awarded the 2024 Hillman Fellowship to two radiologists, who will now gain hands-on experience editing and publishing the ACR’s primary academic research journal.
Fatima Elahi, DO, from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and Madison Kocher Wulfeck, MD, from Radiology Partners, will work alongside staff at Journal of the American College of Radiology (JACR), traveling to New York City to spend time with the publisher, Elsevier, to learn about the journalistic process.
Elahi is a radiology resident at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and has recently accepted a move to the Mayo Clinic Rochester, where in the near future she will work on research and patient care in mammography. She serves as a board member for the ACR’s nonpartisan political lobbying organization representing radiologists, RADPAC, earning an award for her service in 2023.
Wulfeck works as a cardiothoracic radiologist on strategies for organizations to improve patient care. She previously served on the Trainee Editorial Board at JACR, earning the publication’s Exceptional Reviewer Award in 2022. She has published numerous papers, and in 2021 earned the ARRS Resident in Radiology Melissa Rosado de Christenson Award for her research on the use of artificial intelligence in radiology and medical imaging.
The Hillman Fellowship is named after Bruce Hillman, MD, who founded JACR and headed its operations from 2004-2019. Hillman passed away in January at the age of 76. The fellowship program began in 2015, and has so far been granted to 12 individuals who support the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology, as well as medical physics and radiation oncology.
