OU Health establishes Health Sciences Imaging Institute for training, research

OU Health, the academic healthcare system of Oklahoma, and Siemens Healthineers have partnered to establish the OU Health Sciences Imaging Institute, which has a stated aim of addressing the shortage of imaging professionals through hands-on training. 

According to an announcement, the institute also will conduct academic research with the goal of developing new imaging techniques.

“No one should have to leave Oklahoma to access the most advanced healthcare, and this value partnership furthers our dedication to that effort,” OU Health President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Lofgren, MD, said in the statement. “It will serve as a focal point for patients as we apply technology to conditions most affecting Oklahomans, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurological and lung conditions.” 

As part of the collaboration, OU Health will adopt Siemens Healthineers' imaging technology at its main Oklahoma City campus. Additionally, the health system will have access to mobile MRI and other imaging units to bring diagnostic scans to rural and underserved areas around the state. The agreement between the two organizations will last at least 10 years.

The announcement does not say when the Health Sciences Imaging Institute will open its doors.
