Agfa provides versatile CR for radiotherapy, celebrates first major install

Agfa HealthCare highlighted its CR25-TR computed radiography (CR) system tailored for radiotherapy system the CR25-RT at last week's American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) annual meeting in Denver, Colo.

The complete CR digital simulation and portal imaging system provides both low dose (for localization) and high dose (for verification) applications. It acquires digital CR images that enable post-processing image enhancement, resulting in higher contrast images for radiotherapy. It also allows smooth integration, flexible transfer, and improved image distribution via DICOM storage, as well as rapid feedback from radiation oncologists, radiotherapists and physicians.

Additionally, the system uses a reusable digital CR plate potentially good for as many as 30,000 cycles. The CR25-RT also is ideal for facilities eager to digitize radiotherapy but with limited budget resources, according to an Agfa spokesperson at the conference.

The CR system also is equipped to function within a general radiation environment with common radiology applications working in conjunction with various therapy applications.
Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky., is the first major healthcare facility in the United States to put the new computed radiography system fully to work in a radiation therapy department and the results have been very positive, Agfa said.

Western Baptist is a 375-bed regional medical center that's part of the Baptist Health Care System of Kentucky, and is a leader in cardiac care, oncology, and women's and children's services.
