FDA OKs newest DR system from Imaging Dynamics

Imaging Dynamics Company (IDC) has received U.S. FDA 510k clearance for its Xplorer 1600 CCD-based digital radiography (DR) system.

The Xplorer is IDC's newest DR system. It was introduced at this year's American Healthcare Radiology Administrators (AHRA) show in Boston. The system incorporates a "U" arm positioning stand, attached x-ray tube and collimator and x-ray generator. It can perform chest x-rays and general radiography -- including cross table examinations -- without requiring any overhead structure in the room, IDC said.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.

The newly cleared offering, AutoChamber, was designed with opportunistic screening in mind. It can evaluate many different kinds of CT images, including those originally gathered to screen patients for lung cancer.
