HP, Bycast support PACS at large Arizona healthcare system
Banner Health of Phoenix, Ariz. has awarded HP a contract to support its Arizona Regional PACS Archive that will house and ensure the integrity, availability and security of more than 800,000 radiology and cardiology procedures, including CTs, MRIs and digital mammographies that are produced at multi-site locations.
According to HP, Banner Health's new distributed storage system will employ a multi-tier storage hierarchy based on the HP StorageWorks arrays integrated with HP ProLiant servers. By 2009, the archive is expected to grow to more than 1.2 petabytes of data - more than 1,000 trillion bytes of data - scaling to support seven medical facilities throughout central Arizona.
The installation, which began in December 2004, includes HP ProLiant DL 380 servers, HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Arrays, project management, implementation and integration services, in addition to 24x7 operational support, HP said.
The system is powered by Bycast Inc.'s StorageGRID software that will interface with multiple existing PACS image management systems. By distributing the data across the multi-facility installation, the storage grid ensures fast access for physicians and others in different Banner Health locations, HP said.
Bycast and HP announced their strategic partnership at this year's annual Radiological Society of North America show.
Banner Health is a large not-for-profit healthcare system that offers 19 hospitals, six long-term care centers and an array of other services, including family clinics, home care services and home medical equipment services, in eight western states - Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada and Wyoming.
