New Products: Candelis, Fusion Dynamic, iCAD, Intelerad, Mazor, Mercury, Segami, Sony

Candelis announced a new information lifecycle management (ILM) system to its ImageGrid 1000 and 700 that includes technology integrated from the Sony LIB-81 and LIB-162 series Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) libraries with ImageGrid ILM software. ImageGrid is a line of DICOM server appliances designed to speed digital image access and routing, simplify image management, and provide storage and archiving. Candelis collaborated with Sony to incorporate the features of the LIB-81 and LIB-162 series tape libraries, which are based on the AIT format developed by Sony, along with back-end ImageGrid ILM software.

Fusion Dynamic announced that it is offering its new dynamic data center operating environment, DynamicOE, on IBM’s BladeCenter and System x platform. DynamicOE is a data-center operating environment that provides end-to-end service modeling; dynamic binding of applications, servers, network, and storage; automated provisioning and availability management from high-level, service-oriented models; replication of service models across data centers (i.e., from OE to OE); and dynamic, real-time, automated adjustment of service capacities. The most recently announced version of DynamicOE operating environment focuses on data centers based on IBM BladeCenter.

iCAD announced the release of a new version of its CAD software that is available with all SecondLook 300 and SecondLook 700 systems. CAD v7.2 is a highly trained algorithm that automatically identifies and marks areas typically associated with cancer. The CAD software marks the primary indications of breast cancer in a consistent, logical manner that is closely aligned with standard mammography training. In clinical studies, iCAD has been shown to find up to 72 percent of cancers that had been missed on the previous mammogram exam. According to the company, CAD v7.2 offers the following benefits: reduced false markings of vascular calcifications, film noise or grain, lymph nodes, and linear structures.

Montreal-based PACS vendor Intelerad Medical Systems announced the release of InteleViewer Workstation, a DICOM workstation software product for diagnostic reading. The workstation allows users to DICOM query/retrieve from multiple sources: PACS, modalities, or other DICOM devices. InteleViewer Workstation also allows images to be imported from CD for viewing or to be sent to another DICOM device. InteleViewer Workstation is based on InteleViewer Enterprise, the native viewer for Intelerad’s IntelePACS.

Image-based surgical positioning system provider Mazor Surgical Technologies is showcasing a system enabling precise placement of artificial discs at the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting (NASS) in Seattle, Sept. 26 to 30. The system is designed to reduce the length and complexity of lumbar and thoracic disc replacement surgeries. The software-based application was developed to address recent clinical studies that demonstrate the importance and challenge of optimal artificial disc positioning, including alignment and orientation, for successful total disc replacement surgical outcomes. Using DiscAssist, surgeons develop a precise 3D surgical blueprint that includes artificial disc sizing and precise disc placement, inclusive of alignment and orientation.

Chemsford, Mass.-based Mercury Computer Systems announced its Visage MR, an MRI receiver product that has been shown in clinical trials to significantly improve image quality and reduce scan times -- two primary drivers of MR imaging. Visage MR is a high-bandwidth, 16-bit analog-to-digital receiver board with advanced digital filtering and MRI-specific noise-reduction technology designed to improve signal-to-noise ratios in MR images. Visage MR has four times the resolution of current-generation MRI receivers, coupled with an extremely high sampling rate. This combination extends dynamic range through decimation to 24 bits of resolution, preserving more of the MRI signal to allow the visualization of finer image detail while also accelerating fast MRI imaging sequences, the company says.

Segami and Mid-Atlantic Imaging unveiled the maiCAM180, a portable, dual-detector gamma camera optimized for cardiac SPECT imaging in small office rooms and use in portable or mobile operations. The system is able to image subjects in the upright position. Apart from the small footprint, upright imaging provides many performance benefits, including quick patient setup, less patient motion, less attenuation, and less extra-cardiac activity. The camera does not require any site preparation and can be connected to a standard AC mains outlet. The maiCAM180 is a complete portable imaging system for cardiac SPECT, with integrated acquisition console and ECG gate.
