ASTRO publishes new brochure for patients undergoing radiation therapy

The American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) has published a new patient information brochure titled "The Radiation Oncology Treatment Team: Your Partners in Cancer Treatment."

The organization says its part of a new effort to educate the public about how radiation therapy is safely and effectively used to treat cancer

In the process of radiation therapy, patients are introduced to a team of professionals that include radiation oncologists, radiation oncology nurses, radiation therapists, dosimetrists and medical radiation physicists. Because cancer treatment can be an overwhelming experience for cancer patients and their families, the organization has created the brochure that explains the roles and responsibilities of each of these team members.

Copies of the brochure are available free to patients and patient advocacy organizations by contacting Beth Bukata at 1-800-962-7876 or bethb@astro.org. The brochure can also be viewed online at www.astro.org/patient/.
