Boston Scientific gets EU OK for cardiac patient management system

Boston Scientific has received a CE Mark for its Latitude patient management system.

The Latitude system remotely monitors patients with implantable cardiac devices, gathering information on both the device and a patient's heart health status. The system also can detect clinical events between scheduled physician visits and send data to a patient's physician. The Natick, Mass.-based company said it will launch the system in Europe in a phased approach, beginning this week.

Boston Scientific has enrolled more than 130,000 patients on the Latitude system since its introduction in the U.S. in 2006, according to Fred Colen, president of Boston Scientific's cardiac rhythm management division.

The company said its international version of Latitude is compatible with its wireless Teligen implantable cardioverter defibrillator and Cognis cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator.
