Educators receive ASRT writing awards

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) recently presented its 2005 Jean I. Widger Distinguished Author Award to three radiologic science educators in Virginia. The society also awarded its 2005 Harold E. Silverman Distinguished Author Award to a radiation therapy educator in Washington, D.C, the ASRT said.

The winners of the Widger Award are being recognized for their article Professional Profile of Radiologic Technology Educators published in the March/April 2005 issue of the ASRT journal Radiologic Technology.

The recipients are Dr. Jeffrey S. Legg an assistant professor in the department of radiation sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University's School Allied Health Professions in Richmond, Va.; Debra K. Pollard, M.S., R.T.(R), is clinical coordinator for Bon Secours School of Medical Imaging in Richmond; and Dr. Terri L. Fauber is associate professor and chairman of the department of radiation sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University's School of Allied Health Professions.

The winning best peer-reviewed research article is selected by the journal's Editorial Review Board and the writers are awarded a $1,000 prize.

Catherine L. Turley Ed.D., R.T.(R)(T), received the Silverman Award along with its $1,000 prize for her article A Frames Analysis of Radiation Therapy Program Director Leadership published in the Spring 2004 issue of the ASRT journal Radiation Therapist.
The Silverman award is presented each year to the author of the best peer-reviewed article in Radiation Therapist, which is also chosen by the journal's Editorial Review Board.
