FDA clears Aktina radiotherapy system

Aktina Medical has recently received FDA 510(k) clearance to market and sell Aktina pinPoint system, a frameless non-invasive localization and fixation system for cranial SRS and SRT, as well as radiotherapy of the head and neck area.

The Congers, N.Y.-based company said its PinPoint uses patented vacuum fixation technology to achieve sub-millimeter accuracy. Localization for both cranial and head/neck treatments is accomplished via fiducial frames used in conjunction with a software package (p2 AutoRegistration), which integrates to treatment planning systems.
