GE Medical Systems, University Community Health to build filmless heart hospital

GE Medical Systems (GEMS) and University Community Health (UCH) system in Tampa, Fla., have unveiled plans to build a $40 million paperless, filmless and wireless heart hospital.

GEMS will provide the technology for the 120,000 square-foot cardiovascular hospital that will be named the Pepin Heart Hospital and Research Institute.

At the core of the digital workflow will be GEMS' Centricity cardiology information system and Centricity clinical information system, an electronic patient record system that enables doctors and nurses to view patient information anywhere and at the time of patient care.

Construction of the hospital is scheduled for completion by spring of 2005.
