KLAS: CPOE usage on the rise

The use by hospitals of computerized physician order entry systems (CPOE) is slowly growing, according to a survey by KLAS Enterprises. The data is based on estimates regarding 5,764 U.S. hospitals.

Though use is generally small in relation to the amount of hospitals, usage has gone up over the past 3 years with 4 percent (an estimated 113,000 users) of hospitals surveyed likely be using CPOE in 2005, compared with 3.2 percent (estimated 69,000 users) in 2004, and 2.8 percent (an estimated 45,000 users) in 2003.
