Medcon, EMC complete installation
Medcon Telemedicine Technology Inc. announced at HIMSS it has completed integration of its TCS Symphony's cardiac image and information management system with EMC Corp.'s Centera storage system at the Saint Thomas Heart Institute in Nashville, Tenn.
TCS Symphony aggregates cardiology multi-modality images, such as echo, cath and nuclear medicine, together with patient information, including hemodynamics and ECG waveforms, in one central database for LAN and Internet access. EMC's network-based storage system addresses the unique information storage requirements of fixed content data, such as cardiac electronic patient records, including cath images and reports.
"Saint Thomas performs 16,000 cath procedures annually, generating 4.2 terabytes of data," says George Liesmann, MD, chief medical officer. "Each cath procedure generates around 500MB of data, consisting of both images and reports." Medcon's TCS Symphony will manage the imaging and reporting workflow in the lab and EMC will archive all cardiac data including cath, echo, nuclear cardiology, CT and MRI images and reports.
EMC's Centera network-based storage system can scale from multiple terabyte to petabyte-sized environments.
