Sectra expands U.K. presence with $12M purchase

Sectra has acquired Burnbank Systems, which markets IT services to the U.K. healthcare sector. The company said the acquisition is part of its program to expand its medical systems operations in the U.K. market.

Burnbank has established a network for the transfer of medical images and reports between U.K. healthcare providers. More than 290 hospitals use Burnbank’s Image Exchange Portal service, Sectra said.

The acquisition comprises the three companies—Burnbank Systems, Burnbank Healthsystems and Burnbank Data-connect—with offices in Suffolk, England. The company has a total of 25 employees. Burnbank will continue to operate under its existing brand as a separate business unit in Sectra’s Medical Systems unit.

The cash purchase consideration amounts to £5 million GBP ($7.71 million USD). The transaction encompasses an additional purchase consideration of up to £3 million GBP ($4.63 million USD). Financing of the acquisition will be covered by existing funds.

Sectra assumed control of the operation on June 6, and the business will be consolidated in the Sectra Group as this month.
