Siemens chooses tool kit for 1.5T MRI system

Siemens Medical Solutions USA Inc. is enchancing its Magnetom MRI platform with technology from Wind River Systems Inc. of Alameda, Calif.

Siemens chose Wind River's VxWorks Developer tool kit (VDT) as the foundation for its 1.5-tesla MRI system, Magnetom Avanto. The MRI system is the first Siemens imaging system to incorporate its new total imaging matrix (TIM) technology. TIM scans and develops body images in a single session in less than 12 minutes. Siemens says Wind River's technology has improved development costs, debugging issues, application testing, product testing and integration.

Siemens purchased Wind River's DVT as part of its subscription-based enterprise-licensing model, which includes yearly updates of the technology.
