StorageTek shows off SteamLine SL8500 Modular Library

With installations now 200-strong worldwide, StorageTek at HIMSS demonstrated its StreamLine SL8500 Modular Library System for information lifecycle management.

The SL8500, the first mixed media tape library, can be scaled from 1,500 cartridge slots to 250,000 cartridge slots. It is geared for hospitals of 300 beds or more. The system will attach to mainframe, supercomputing, UNIX and Windows environments and provide seamless support for mixed media. The SL8500's robotics provide more than 1,000 mounts per hour, while the system has the highest density per slot in the industry with more than 50 cartridges per square foot.
