Varian onboard at AAPM

Varian Medical Systems will exhibit its latest technologies for treating cancer using stereotactic and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) at next week's meeting of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), July 25-29, in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Varian's Trilogy system, which incorporates the On-Board Imager accessory, will be on display at AAPM. This multifunctional linear accelerator can deliver many forms of radiation therapy, including conventional, 3D conformal, intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), IGRT, stereotactic radiotherapy and radiosurgery.

Varian says it will also showcase at AAPM: quality assurance software that makes it easier for hospitals to implement treatment approaches like IMRT and IGRT; a 3D radiotherapy treatment planning program; Cone-beam 3D CT images from the company's Acuity system for treatment planning, simulation, and verification; and tools for using 3D ultrasound to position patients precisely for stereotactic radiotherapy.

In addition, Varian said it is sponsoring an IGRT symposium on Sunday, July 25, that will hold presentations by clinicians from Emory University, Henry Ford Health System, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the University of Florida.
