WHO raises support for eHealth
More focus on developing eHealth was the cry that came out of the 58th session of the World Health Organization (WHO). The organization adopted a resolution to this effect at the May 16-25 meeting that included more than 2,200 participants from its 192 member states, nongovernmental organizations and observers.
The resolution notes that eHealth is a cost-effective and efficient way to provide support for healthcare organizations and programs, especially those in vulnerable areas. The resolution takes special notice of areas such as healthcare services, health surveillance, health literature, and health education as potential avenues through which Member States can reach out to communities in need. The resolution also supports the continued development of existing programs such as the Health Academy, a program that, through the usage of eLearning, strives to educate communities in health awareness and healthy lifestyles, according to the WHO website.
