Netherlands begins process for new nuke reactor

The Nuclear Research and Consultancy Group (NRG) submitted a request for the environmental impact assessment report for the PALLAS reactor that will replace the High Flux Reactor to the Dutch ministry of housing, spatial planning and the environment.

This is the first step in the procedure to request a permit for the construction of PALLAS which will secure the production of isotopes for medical applications, according to NRG.

Boundary conditions set by the Dutch government and business economic considerations will play an important role in the final decision about the location: Petten in the northwest region (North Holland) or Borssele in the southwest region (Zeeland).
