California facility chooses Xoft brachytherapy technology

Hoag Breast Care Center of Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Calif., has selected Brachytherapy provider Xoft’s Axxent Electronic Brachytherapy system to support its new Intraoperative Radiation Therapy program for treatment of early stage breast cancer, endometrial cancer and skin cancer.

The system--which delivers isotope-free therapy to cancer sites--has treated the first breast cancer patient at the facility, making the hospital the first in Orange County to offer IORT, said the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company.
