Can untreated breast tumors really go away on their own?
A recent Forbes article outlined a study published in the Journal of the American College of Radiology that found none of 479 untreated breast tumors found by screening went away on its own.
In the study, 42 radiologists participated and none recalled having seen any case of breast cancer going away or regressing without treatment. However, the author of the study states there was only a 39 percent survey response rate, which could have altered these findings along with bias and selective memory.
She also discusses that radiologists who were selected to participate had provided a total of 6.8 million screening mammograms over 10 years and were experts in their subspecialties. Given these facts, the Forbes contributor shares her opinion on the evidence presented.
