Tennessee breast center opens country's 1st non-compression mammography unit
The country's first "no compression" breast imaging unit opened May 16 at the Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center (KCBC) in Tennessee, according to WFMYNews2 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The new technology, called the Koning Breast CT, uses CT imaging and can generate a clear, complete 3D image in 10 seconds, KCBC founder and medical director Kamilia Kozlowski, MD, told WFMYNews2.
Patients receive as low a dose of radiation as they would with traditional mammogram.
"This new technology is the biggest breakthrough in breast imaging. It gets rid of the most common complaint patients have and provides a wealth of information that isn't available in mammography," Kozlowski told WFMYNews2.
