Workflow-Based Staffing: Aug. 15, 4PM-5PM

Attendees will learn the step-by-step approach to gathering data, addressing staff and implementing a successful paradigm shift with their departments.

Historically, imaging staff have had assigned work shifts that align with standardized “shift” hours. Often throughout the shift , the numbers of imaging orders would wax and wane leading to periods of high staff activity and relative inactivity. Creating a new paradigm for staff that adjusts schedules by day of the week and time of the day to the needs of the patients offers the opportunity to generate a workflow-based staffing system. Workflow-based staffing has led to improved turnaround times for all patient exams, leading to quicker patient diagnoses and decreasing the overall length of stay for inpatients.

Attendees will learn to:
  • Understand what data to collect and how to analyze the data for best practices decision making;
  • Create a successful plan of employee engagement to create a paradigm shift that supports workflow based staffing; and
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and follow-up evaluation of the process and how to re-engage as data points change to continue the highest level of productivity within the department.

  • Robin Kirschner, EdD, RN, Banner Desert Medical Center, Mesa, Ariz.
