Call for participants: National Health Information Security and Privacy Collaboration

As part of a contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, RTI International and the National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices has released a request for proposals inviting U.S. states and territories to participate in a collaborative effort to examine privacy and security laws and business practices that affect the exchange of interoperable electronic health information, according to a release.

The project has arisen from a contract by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to a team led by RTI.
The request for proposals provides detailed information on the requirements for each state and/or territorial project, guidelines for submitting a proposal and information on the support provided by RTI and the NGA. States and territories receiving an award will be required to complete the work within one year.

Developing these solutions is an integral component of efforts to develop the National Health Information Network, a system in which electronic health records would be shared among health care providers nationwide to enhance health care quality.

The proposal is available at www.rti.org/HISPC. Applications are due March 1st.
