Carolyn Meltzer named med school dean, new imaging chief and more leadership news

Renowned radiologist Carolyn C. Meltzer, MD, has been named dean of the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine, the college announced Tuesday.

Meltzer is currently chair of the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Emory University in Atlanta. She beat out more than 130 candidates for the new position, which she will assume on March 1.

Her prior roles also include past president of the American Society of Neuroradiology and the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research. Additionally, the American Medical Association recently awarded Meltzer with its Distinguished Service Award, one of its highest honors.

“I am thrilled to be joining USC and the Keck School of Medicine,” Meltzer said in a news story.  “We are well positioned to accelerate the growth of our clinical mission to provide the highest quality care for the communities we serve, and to nurture the healthcare and research workforce of the future. I look forward to partnering across the institution to build on a foundation of excellence in interdisciplinary and translational biomedical discovery.”

UNC Radiology names new chief of pediatrics

The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill has named a new chief to lead its pediatric imaging division, UNC Health announced Tuesday.

Carolina Guimaraes, MD, will take over the role of division chief of pediatric radiology at UNC. She is currently an associate professor of radiology at Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.

“I am confident that Dr. Guimaraes’s exceptional clinical prowess, her national and international reputation as a leader in pediatric neuroradiology, and her commitment to research and education will continue to elevate our outstanding pediatric radiology division,” Radiology Department Chair Maureen Kohi, MD, added.
