Strategic Radiology names CMO, Sectra’s executive hire and more radiology leadership news

Lauren Golding, MD, has been named chief medical officer of the Strategic Radiology-Patient Safety Organization, according to an announcement shared Thursday.

In her new role, Golding will lead the coalition of privately owned radiology practices in a number of initiatives, including intra-practice image exchange, enhanced clinical collaboration and quality improvement efforts.

Golding holds a number of prominent positions within the American College of Radiology, including chair of the ACR MACRA and Reimbursement Committees and chair of the college’s Ultrasound Commission. She also represents the ACR as the Relative Value Scale Update Committee Advisor to the American Medical Association.

“I am excited to assume this new role as CMO for the SR-PSO,” Golding said in a statement. “The opportunity to collaborate on a national scale with other excellent independent groups has the potential to improve the quality and value of radiological services for all of the patients and partners we serve.”

ASNC welcomes new president

Dennis Calnon, MD, has taken over as president of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology for 2022, the organization announced Jan. 4.

Calnon first arrived at ASNC in 1996, working on the society’s Community-based Practice Committee and taking over the role of associate editor of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology.

He spoke during the society’s annual meeting last year, where he said the “state of nuclear cardiology is very, very strong.” He went on to urge nuclear cardiologists to embrace stress-first/only imaging and coronary calcium assessment, and to explore the value of cardiac PET for patients.

ARRS awards high honor

The American Roentgen Ray Society recognized Mark S. Parker, MD, as its 2022 Distinguished Educator, one of the organization’s highest teaching honors.

Parker is a professor of radiology and internal medicine at VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia, where he has also served as thoracic imaging section chief since 2009. Parker directs VCU’s Cardiothoracic Imaging Fellowship and Early Detection Lung Cancer Screening Program.

The ARRS award is reserved for individuals in the medical imaging field who have a proven record of enhancing radiology education to ultimately improve patient outcomes.

ARRS will formally recognize Parker during the opening ceremony of its annual meeting taking place in New Orleans Sunday, May 1.

Positron, a New York-based nuclear imaging company, will now provide Upbeat Cardiology Solutions with advanced PET/CT systems and services.

The nuclear imaging isotope shortage of molybdenum-99 may be over now that the sidelined reactor is restarting. ASNC's president says PET and new SPECT technologies helped cardiac imaging labs better weather the storm.

CMS has more than doubled the CCTA payment rate from $175 to $357.13. The move, expected to have a significant impact on the utilization of cardiac CT, received immediate praise from imaging specialists.
